Zeliangrong bodies flay assault

The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) have expressed deep concern over the attack carried out against to 10 players from Tamenglong district at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in the night of July 18 .
The players were here to participate in the U-14 Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament.
In a joint press statement, the two bodies said, out of the 16 students camping at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak, 10 players were reportedly attacked with sticks and other deadly weapons by unknown persons in which two players were seriously injured.
Taking serious note of the incident, ZYF and ZSUM demanded the State Government to bear the medical expenses of the players until their full recovery.
The bodies also demanded that the identities of the culprits be exposed to the public and to book them at the earliest.
The two Zeliangrong bodies also warned that they would initiate democratic agitations if the Government fails to fulfil the demands at the earliest.
The bodies added that they had conducted an independent enquiry into the incident.
One of the injured players was complaining of breathing difficulty and painful sensation all over his body due to punching and kicking in his chest.
Another player was complaining of waist-abdomen pain, the bodies said.
During the attack, the Zelianrgong bodies alleged, not a single person including the coach was spared and they all received different degree of physical injuries.
The bodies also lambasted the organising committee for not providing security to the players.
On the other hand, the bodies also flayed the police for not making the identities of the culprits public.
Six persons who were involved in the attack were said to have arrested by police, it added.
