Imphal, March 16 2013 :
Four Zeliangrong bodies have threatened the State Government that different forms of democratic agitation will be launched if necessary action is not taken up for the safe release of two girls who are suspected to be in the confinement of unknown persons.
In a joint memorandum submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur, Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Imphal Zone) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (Bishnupur Zone) said that Alice Kamei (14) of Chingphu Kabui village and Khaidem Sanahanbi (15) of Upokpi have been missing since March 10 from the hostel of Grace Reach English Academy, Hiyanglam, where they are reading.
On March 13 and 14, some unknown persons informed the family of Alice that the two girls were being confined in their custody.
The memorandum added, the unknown persons assured Alice's mother over the mobile phone that the girl would be freed unharmed.
The man also asked not to lodge any FIR or disclose the matter to the media.
However, the matter has become serious as the said mobile phone has been kept switch off and no communication could be made with the caller.
As such, the memorandum urged the Deputy Chief Minister to take up necessary measures to release the girl failing of which the Zeliangrong bodies would initiate different forms of democratic agitation in collaboration with civil bodies and human rights organisations.
