1st Friendship Festival

Imphal, January 12 2016:
With an aim to foster peace and friendship among various communities
of the State, Ijeirong Village Committee has organised
the 1st Friendship Festival from January 6 to January 10 at
Ijeirong.
The festival was organised under the aegis of the Department
of Tourism and Department of Art and Culture,
Government of Manipur.
Friendly football matches, sack fighting, tug of war and
other traditional games were held.
Stalls selling handicrafts
and food were also opened during the festival.
The highlights of the festival were the enthralling performances
by Thoubal troupe, Kangchup Songlung village
troupe and noted artistes of the State including Sadananda,
Kaiku and Rewben Mashangva.
Speaking at the festival, Dr Th Chandramani Singh, Coordinator
cum Project Director, Kurkam Memorial Research
Centre for Tribal and Endangered Languages, South East
Manipur College, Komlathabi, Chandel announced that a
centre for endangered languages will be opened at Ijeirong
in order to preserve and promote endangered dialects/languages
spoken in and around Tamenglong district.
In the meantime, the chairman of the festival committee
Kasahung has expressed gratitude to Brig Gautam Chauhan,
Commander, 73 Mountain Brigade and Col Rajiv
Choudhary, Commander, 8 Assam Rifles for their assistance
in making the festival a success and for sponsoring the
prizes for the football tournament.
The festival committee also conveyed gratitude to Col
Christopher Rego, Officer Commanding of 512 SS&TC
(GREF) for his assistance.
