Imphal, April 08 2009:
None of the candidates who filed nomination papers for contesting in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency has withdrawn their nominations as the last day of withdrawal expired today.
All seven candidates including a woman are in the fray for the elections which will be held on April 22 .
The Inner Manipur constituency, covering Imphal West, Bishnupur, Imphal East except Jiribam sub-division and parts of Thoubal district, will go to thepolls on April 22 .
The polling of Outer Manipur constituency (reserved) will be held on April 16 .
The only woman candidate in Inner Manipur Constituency, L Khetrani of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda is contesting as Independent candidate.
Other candidates in the fray are MPP nominee, former Union minister Th Chaoba of Utlou, Congress nominee, sitting MP Dr Th Meinya of Joypur Khumbong, BJP nominee, former Chief Minister W Nipamacha of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai, CPI nominee, former minister M Nara of Wangjing Tentha, Independent candidates, A Rahman of Pangei Thangjam Khunou, former IGP and Nongmaithem Homendro of Sagolband Salam Leikai.
The Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency covers 32 Assembly segments located across the five valley districts of the state, Imphal east (excluding Jiribam AC), Imphal west, Bishnupur, three Assembly segments in Thoubal district viz Lilong, Wangkhem and Thoubal A/Cs.
The total number of voters for the inner who can exercise their franchise is 8,26,539.Out of this Imphal west has 3,22,550 electors, Imphal east has 2,92,276, Bishnupur has 1,57,881 and Thoubal has 81,112 voters.
In this constituency 970 polling stations will be opened for casting votes.
Out of this total polling stations 319 are in Imphal west, 369 are in Imphal east, 191 and 91 in Thoubal district.
