A two-day Imphal Literature Festival organised by Sahitya Thoupang lup got underway at Manipur Press Club today with the inauguration programme graced by National School of Drama Chairman Ratan Thiyam, Commissioner (Art & Culture) Dr RK Nimai Singh and Bangladeshi poet Dr Shihab Shahriar as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Noting increase in the number of literary scholars in Manipur, Ratan Thiyam in his brief address suggested that more efforts need to be made for further promotion of the literary movement in the State.
The noted theatre personality also desired that the Festival should be promoted in such a way that it would generate interest among the common populace.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr RK Nimai stressed on Government patronage towards promotion of literary movement in the State along with ensuring participation of the younger generation in literary programmes.
Besides Table Calendar, books written by Haridas Khongbantabam (Mamhallaba Ahing), Tongbram Amarjit (Loubukki Manam), Lambamayum Bimol (nangi Thongjinda), Surjit Khaidemcha (Amuba Nungou), Saratchand Thiyam (Mahousa) and Sanaton Hamom (Thamoinungi Manipur) were also released at the occasion.t of their villages and State, added the PRO release.
