Imphal, April 22 2018: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has expressed disappointment with the State Government for appointing a non local, who is also alleged to be involved in misappropriation of public funds, as the Chief Secretary of the State, by brushing aside many other eligible native officers of the State.

A press release issued by the information and publicity secretary of AMSU today stated that it is not the right time for the State Government to keep shielding an individual who has also been alleged to have been involved in financial misappropriation and added that the people are now asking why and how the State Government neglected all other eligible native officers and appointed a non local to the post.

Pointing out that it is the responsibility of the Government to clarify as to why all other eligible native officers were not selected, it conveyed that the union as well as the people are now starting to suspect that the State Government is dancing to the tunes of the Central Government.

The people of the State still has belief in the N Biren led BJP State Government but it would be wise for the State Government to remember and learn from the mistakes of the previous Government.

It claimed that appointing a non local and that too someone who is allegedly involved in financial misappropriation, to a post which will handle the administration of the State, is shortsightedness on the part of the State Government.

It is shameful to see the Government and the Chief Minister running after the Central Government which is attempting to eradicate the indigenous people of the State, even though it (State Government) is trying so hard to present itself as a people friendly Government, the union added.

Demanding the State Government to appoint a native officer to the post of the Chief Secretary at the earliest, it warned that the union along with various other students' organisations, CSOs and the people will start necessary protests.

On the other hand, AMSU claimed that the decision of the Department of Education (S) to conduct Common Entrance Test on April 29, even before declaring the result of the class X exam conducted by BOSEM, is unreasonable.

The union claimed that many students from remote places of the State will be oblivious to the notice issued by the Department regarding the same on April 11, and the notice will create confusion for the students who are still waiting for their class X results.

It appealed the authority concerned to spread the news about the test through various media for maximum awareness, and added that if the Education Department conducts the exam without proper dissemination of the notice, it will create headache in the future.
