Najma leads in extending Khongjom Day wish

Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has wished the people of the State on the occasion of Khongjom Day.
She stated that the day celebrates the indomitable courage and spirit of patriotism the Manipuris displayed in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 where a handful of Manipuri soldiers fought against the mighty Biritsh empire and laid down their lives for the motherland.
She said that Khongjom Day also reminds the people that the British rule was brought upon the people due to the enmity and disunity among the Manipur princes who yearned for the throne.
The Governor further appealed to one and all, irrespective of caste, creed or religion to reaffirm the pledge to preserve and protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh has also greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Khongjom Day.
He said that Khongjom Day reminds the people of the supreme sacrifice made by Paona Brajabashi and other valiant heroes of Manipur in the legendary battle of Khongjom in the year 1891 and the battle showed to the world the indomitable courage and patriotism of the Manipuris who fought valiantly against the mighty British empire.
Urging the people to unite and stand against any forces trying to disintegrate the Nation and the State in particular, the Chief Minister once again wished the people on the occasion of Khongjom Day.
Works Minister Th Biswajit also greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Khongjom Day and urged the people to stand together and defend the sovereignty of the country.
