Miscreants set ablaze suspension bridge

A suspension bridge which connected Erong Khunou and Mutum Phibou Khul has been burned down by unidentified miscreants at around 9.30 pm yesterday.
The bridge is situated only four kilometres away from Lilong Nungei and unidentified miscreants from Mutum Phibou side allegedly burned down the bridge by using rubber tyres and straws.
A public meeting was held today at Erong Khunou Community hall regarding the incident where Erong Khunou Youth Development Union former president Md Rahimuddin said that the State Government must try to bring an amicable solution to the Lilong Nungei issue at the earliest.
He pointed out that the bridge is used by the people, mainly students, in order to go to educational institutions and is an important route for business and trade and appealed to whoever was responsible not to try and destroy the bridge for every petty issues.
He urged the authorities concerned to take up appropriate action against the culprits who tried to destroy the bridge and to construct a sturdier one in its place.
Rahimuddin further appealed to all the people of the two villages to work toward peaceful co existence instead of resorting to violence.
