Imphal, October 21 2015:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has said that delay in the opening of a branch of State Bank of India at Tamei Hqs has tremendously impeded the developmental activities and financial transaction related matters at Tamei and adjoining areas.
In a statement, ZYF said that the Central Government has made opening of bank accounts mandatory for financial transaction regarding implementation of various developmental schemes, school/college admission, receiving benefits and other entitlements as a citizen of the country.
However, absence of a bank branch has given lots of inconvenience to the people of Tamei, the statement said.
Every job card holder of MGNREGS must have a bank account according to guidelines while LPG connection also needs bank account, it added.
Tribal students must have bank accounts to receive scholarships, the statement said and added that admission or examination form fill-up and fees payment for students are also to be done in the bank.
Tender bidding for getting contract and supply works has to be channelized through banks, it added.
ZYF also questioned how all these can be possible if there is no bank in the area.
