Security beefed up ahead of Sangai Fest

Imphal, November 20 2018:
Security measures have been beefed up in Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts in light of the Manipur Sangai Festival which will begin tomorrow.
As part of the security measures, a team of Imphal East district security personnel, comprising of district police, commando and women police, conducted cordon and search operation at Wangkhei Angom Leikai and its surrounding areas, under Porompat PS today morning.
Around 200 locals (including women) were verified by the police during the operation and 4 persons who failed to produced proper identity proofs were picked up and handed over to Porompat PS for necessary verification.
After the search operation, the same district police team conducted a house to house search operation at Mahabali Kabui Khul although no one was detained during the said operation.
Later in the evening, Imphal East district police conducted a house to house search operation at Taret Khul, under Lamlai PS.
On the other hand, frisking and checking has also been intensified at Sawombung Gate and foot patrolling was carried out from Sawombung FCI to Sawombung oil pump by personnel of Sawombung Outpost personnel.
Police also conducted house to house search operation in the surrounding areas of Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong (which is also one of the venues of the Sangai Festival).
There is no report of detention or arrest during the search operation.
The district police further conducted sensitization along Imphal river bank and scouted for presence of any kind of unwanted substance or explosive materials in the area.
On the other hand, Bishnupur district police and commando personnel also conducted cofdon and search operation at Moirang Khunou and Mamang Sabal under Kumbi PS today morning.
More than 200 people were verified by police team although no one was detained.
