Imphal Art Gallery inaugurated

Art & Culture Minister L Jayantakumar inaugurated Sangai Exposition of Art at Imphal Art Gallery today.
The expo, which will conclude on November 30, is organised under the aegis of the Art & Culture Department and during the expo, paintings, graphics and sculptures of more than 40 artistes will be showcased.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Jayantakumar said that Imphal Art College is the only known in the State but is well known in the entire North East region.
The art college is monitored by a governing body and is a college which is operated through Government grant-in-aid, he explained and added that the Government is planning to convert the college to a Government college at the earliest.
The Minister continued that the Sangai Expo was organised with the aim of spreading awareness about the history and tradition of the Manipuri society.
The art gallery will also help in informing the National and International tourists who come for the Sangai Festival about the art and culture of Manipur, Jayantakumar added.
On the other hand, Commissioner, Art & Culture, M Lakshmikumar lauded the organisation of Sangai Exposition as a part of the coming Sangai Festival and expressed desire for the gallery to be opened on a regular basis.
Director, Art & Culture, A Shivadas Sharma and Vice-Chairman, Governing body of Imphal Art College, Ibochaoba Yendrembam also attended the event.
