Imphal, September 19 2017:
The family members of an 11 year old child (Robita) of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai, have raised concerns regarding the pathetic conditions of Yairipok Khoirom Primary Health Centre despite the State Government's steps to improve the State's health sector .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club yesterday, Toijam Sobita (Romita's aunt), narrated that on September 7, she, along with her husband, brother in-law and Romita, went to Yairipok Khoirom Primary Health Centre for getting an injection for her five year old son .
After her son was treated, the nurse present at the health centre tried to give a tetanus vaccine to Romita .
Sobita claimed that the nurse was adamant about giving the vaccine to the child and finally, after giving her the injection, the nurse also fed her an iron supplement .
Sobita alleged that as soon as they reached home, Romita's lips began swelling and blisters began to appear on her body.
She also began to experience difficulty in breathing and had to be rushed to the primary health centre, Thoubal district hospital, JNIMS Hospital and then finally to RIMS, where she was treated by Dr Sunibala .
Sobita said that the patient's condition gradually improved under the doctor's supervision, who also said that the patient's stomach had been affected by the iron supplement she took .
Sobita further added that when the family members approached Yairipok Khoirom Primary Health Centre, the doctors and the nurses claimed that the patient's ailment is not due to the vaccine nor the supplement but due to the child's own chronic disease .
Claiming that the primary health centre is now filled with only substitute doctors, she appealed to the State Government to take up necessary measures to improve the condition and facilities of Yairipok Khoirom primary health centre at the earliest.
