Doctors deprived of 9 months' salary

Among the 217 Medical Officers and Dental Surgeons appointed by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) in 2008 and have been posted at different places since April last, 43 of them have not been provided their Employee Identification Number by the concerned department, thus depriving them of their monthly salaries till date.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Dr Robindro, who is among those whose Employee Identification Number have not been provided, informed that in 2008 MPSC selected 217 Medical Officers and Dental Surgeons and they were later on posted at various health centres of the State since April 12 .
However, out of the total 217 doctors, 68 doctors have been deployed in various health sectors of the State which have not yet started functioning like Jiribam District Hospital, CHC Napetpali, District Hospital Imphal West, District Hospital Imphal East, Khuman Lampak Dispenary, Tulihal Airport Dispensary, Chief Minister's Secretariat, Raj Bhawan Imphal as well as at casualties and Trauma Centres of different districts.
Since the said health centres are yet to function, 68 doctors have been attached to nearby Health Centres, Dr Robindro disclosed.
He further informed that though these doctors perform their duties efficiently following the orders of the State government, around 43 doctors from out of the 68 have not been provided their Employee Identification Number on the ground that they are not in sanctioned posts by the health Department and the Secretariat.
As such their names have not been included in the MGEL and their salaries not paid since April last.
Complaints have been made to the concerned authorities for providing their Employee Identification Number and pay the pending salaries.
Accordingly, the Principal Secretary instructed the concerned authorities for doing the needful, but no action has been taken up till date, he lamented.
The aggrieved doctors have threatened to take up cease work strike if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
