Ibobi justifies demand for separate state High Court

Justifying demand for establishment of a separate high court of Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has asserted that the state has been deprived of its high court for long.
The functioning of the Imphal Bench of the Gauhati High Court from the newly constructed Court complex at Chingmeirong was inaugurated today by Justice Altamas Kabir, Judge of Supreme Court of India in the presence of Chief Minister O Ibobi, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar, Justice A.K.Patnaik, Judge of Supreme Court of India, Justice Gyan Sudha Misra, also Judge of Supreme Court of India and Justice Jasti Chelameswar, Judge of Supreme Court of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that "Manipur has been deprived of a separate High Court and the demand for its establishment at the earliest is justified and deserves the attention of Union Government of India" .
He also assured for the state government's full cooperation towards the cause of setting up of a separate High Court in Manipur and urged the judges for their support.

He further said that creation of new High Court complex would pave the way of early setting up of separate high court of Manipur which would enable the people of Manipur to have easy access to justice.
Huge pendency of cases and non-availability of adequate number of judges has caused untold suffering to the people of the state.
The Chief Minister also said that the impressive new High Court building is one of the major milestones Manipur has achieved since the attainment of statehood and described the day as a landmark day in the institutional history of "Justice Delivery" in Manipur.
Furthermore, he also assured that he would look into the proposal for creation of 132 additional posts for Imphal Bench of Gauhati High Court and grant necessary concurrence at the earliest.
The Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, A.K.Goel noted that the legal process of this area was first linked with Kolkata in 1948, and in 1972 the Imphal bench was set up in Manipur.
He said that the Bar Association in Manipur is not less in merit from any other Bar Association in India, and added that it is the spirit of the Judges, the Bar Association and the hard work of the people working in legal judiciary of the state which has made it possible to have a new High Court complex after 40 years in the old building.
The Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Madan B.Lokur said that the quality in the delivery of justice is progressing and it is time to turn attention towards social and juvenile justice in order to move forward to deliver quick justice to the people.
The function was also attended by Senior Advocate N Kumarjit, President of High Court Bar Association, Justice T Nandakumar, Judge, Gauhati High Court; Justice T Nandakumar, Judge Gauhati High Court; Justice HK Sema, Retired Judge, Supreme Court of India; Madan B Lakur, Chief Justice, Andhra Pradesh High Court; Manjula Chelur, Acting Chief Justice, Kerala High Court; Justice N kotishwor, Judge, Gauhati High Court.
