Free cataract camp at Lilong PHC

A free cataract detection camp was held at Lilong PHC on September 29 under the joint initiative of Shija Eye Care Foundation and District Blindness Control Society, Thoubal.
A total of 559 patients turned up for the camp out of which 292 cataract cases were detected on the spot, said a statement issued by SHRI.
Following the camp, two free cataract surgery camps were organised at Shija Eye Care Foundation.
For the first time in the State, Shija Eye Care Foundation has made history by performing the highest number of cataract operations in a single day wherein 82 patients were treated on October 3 .
The second camp was held on October 5 wherein 43 cataract patients were operated free of cost, it stated.
According to Dr Kh Palin, Chairman and Managing Director of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI), about two lakhs of the entire population of Manipur is estimated to be suffering from cataract and this number is going to be escalated in due course of time.
