Free diabetes camp at JNIMS

A one-day diabetes free health camp was held today at Lecture Hall-2 of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat.
As chief guest of the event, North East Elderly Women chief editor RK Nayansana Devi noting that diabetes cases have been on the rise cited sedentary lifestyle, mental disturbance and unhealthy food habits as some of the main causes of the disease, which could prove fatal if timely detection and treatment are not undertaken.
Highlighting that one needs to include fruit and vegetable-based diets and exercise regularly to remain diabetes-free, she reminded that only through preventive measures could one be free from various ailments.
The free camp, during which an interaction programme attended by medical experts and nearly 100 patients was also conducted, was jointly organised by JNIMS, Glaxo Smithkline Pharmaceuticals Ltd and National Alliance for Elderly People's Livelihood Research Advocacy & Chronic Diseases of India.
Among others, JNIMS Medical Superintendent Prof W Gopimohon Singh, Prof (Medicine) Y Iboton Singh, Research Advocacy's chief patron Dr K Shantibala Devi and Glaxo Smithkline's medical communication executive Dipankar Bhattacharya also attended the camp.
