Imphal, June 11 2009:
The Departmental enquiry into the killing of Loitongbam Satish of Singjamei Oinam Thingel by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 23 AR has confounded the people, said Ksh Ibemu, co-convenor of the Committee for the Custodial Death of Loitongbam Satish.
Speaking to media at late Satish's residence today, Ibemu said that the committee appreciated the suspension of five commando personnel involved in the killing of Satish as well as the enquiry being conducted by a team led by IGP (L&O-I) M Karnajit.
It would have been more satisfactory if the enquiry was instituted to establish whether the killing of Satish was a case of custodial death or whether he was killed in a real encounter.
Questioning as to how IGP Karnajit's enquiry fail to make any comment on the personnel of 23 AR who were involved in the killing of Satish, Ibemu said that the Committee would be constrained to resume various forms of intense agitation together with different civil organisations and the public in case the people find the enquiry team's report unsatisfactory.
Taking part in the press meet, L Sarat, father of late Satish, said that the Departmental enquiry being conducted by the State Home Department was laudable.
However, he expressed his scepticism that the enquiry would come up with the exact facts and circumstances under which his son was killed.
He also appealed to the State Government not to make his scepticism a truth.
