Lamka, November 24 2012:
The Gangte tribe under the aegis of Gangte Christian Gospel Centenary Celebration Committee will celebrate the hundredth years of Christianity making its root amongst the tribe from December 13-16 at Chiengkawnpang here.
Announcing the plans for the Gospel centenary today before the media, the committee said several interesting traditions of the tribe, including the infamous 'cloud swimming,' killing of elephant using mere clothes, and their way of felling trees (cutting the bark beneath them) and many others which have been documented will be showcased before the public.
Besides, rewards will be given to four individuals who have written on their own hands the entire text of the Gangte Bible in between September 2011 and September this year.
The Gangtes, long known for their humour has enjoyed a unique history on their own amongst their fellow tribes.
They are said to be a mindless lot, but they have gone a long-long way ever since.
As they planned to celebrate the Gospel Centenary, the tribe as a whole, though still politically divided could very well be dubbed as the most prosperous and successful tribe when their population and their achievements were weighed with the rest.
