The NH-53 Truck Owners' Association has appealed to all organisations to put en end to the practice of calling general strike, bandh or blockade for any grievances or demands.
Instead, the same grievances or demands can be highlighted and pursued through democratic forms of agitation, the asserted the association.
Speaking to media persons here this afternoon, the association's president Kh Inaoba said that general strikes, bandhs and blockades only bring misery to the people.
At such times of bandhs and blockades, traders often hike prices of essential commodities thereby compounding plight of common man.
Inaoba also appealed to the Government to act promptly in accordance to the wish and aspirations of people.
If any demand is legitimate and reasonable, the Government should look into it immediately and come up with a solution.
Community based organisations as well as State level organisations should refrain from imposing bandhs, blockades or strikes particularly during the difficult season of May-June.
On the other hand, the Government is yet to compensate for 10 trucks which were vandalised in the course of violent bandhs and economic blockades last year.
Asking for payment of the due compensation at the earlier, Inaoba also appealed to the Government to deploy adequate strength of security forces on highways.
