Contending that the death of Asem Inaobi was not a case of suicide but murder, a public meeting was held followed by a protest rally at Sekmaijin today.
Throughout the course of the rally, the protesters shouted slogans like "we condemn murder of Inaobi", "punish all those involved in the murder of Inaobi", "stop crime against women", "Inaobi did not kill herself", "punish Dipin according to law", " Kakching police should not violate laws etc" .
Asem Inaobi alias Rita (21) of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai Ningolkhong was found hung to dead in the family's outhouse at about 3.45 am of September 12.Inaobi was reading in class XI at a private school located at Mongshangei.
Inaobi came home from her hostel in the afternoon of September 10 .
According to Lourembam Benao, daughter of Inaobi's aunt, Inaobi and one Salam Dipin had affairs since two years back.
They also had sex several occasions.
Even as Inaobi became pregnant, Dipin gave her drugs to abort the pregnancy.
Inaobi and Dipin met at Benao's house in the afternoon of September 10.Inaobi's proposal to elope on the day was rejected by Dipin.
It might be possible that Dipin called on Inaobi in the night of September 11 on the pretext only to murder Inaobi and hang up her body with a rope, Benao said.
The meeting held today adopted different resolutions which included asking Kakching police and the State Government to give a detail report about the death of Inaobi.
The second resolution was the demand for punishment of Dipin according to law.
Women Action for Development secretary M Subita alleged that police have been collecting little evidence in the death case of Inaobi.
The slippers worn by Inaobi could not be recovered till date.
Had it been a case of suicide, the slippers would not be lost, Subita said.
Saying that Subita's hands and legs were found muddied, Subita demanded a thorough investigation by appointing a qualified IO .
The meeting was also attended by United Committee Manipur president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar and U Nobokishore of the United NGOs Mission Manipur.
