Imphal, September 22 2011:
Demanding immediate intervention of the Government of India in the crisis resulting from the over 50 days old economic blockade, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has warned that the crisis would only worsen and may result in bloody communal conflict if the Centre fails to act immediately.
Further demanding abolishment of the SPF Govt which has not shared any empathy with the suffering people of the State, MPP Youth Front staged a protest demonstration in front of their office here today.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, MPP legislature wing leader O Joy questioned why the Government of India has been maintaining a stoic silence when National Highways which are under its protection are being blockaded for a protracted period in illegal and unconstitutional manner.
Asking if the Government of India has any hidden agenda for remaining deaf to the humanitarian crisis resulting from the illegal and protracted blockades, Joy wondered if the Centre is plotting to ignite a communal clash in Manipur.
The State Government should make all efforts to end the blockades at the earliest.
If the State Government fails in its efforts, the Centre should intervene immediately otherwise the crisis may snowball into communal confrontations and ultimately civil war, the warned the seasoned politician.
In addition to causing death and casualties, prices of all essential commodities have skyrocketed on account of the prolonged blockades breeding untold misery for the general public.
Categorically stating that MPP has no objection to creation of new districts for better administration, Joy expressed strong reservation against creation of new districts on communal lines.
He also condemned the act of imposing counter blockade allegedly guided by parochial communal outlook.
MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang urged the Government to end the economic blockades within three days.
"If it is case of inaptitude on the part of the SPF Government, they should resign without any further delay",
Dr Nimaichand stated.
He also appealed to all concerned not to harass the public any more, and also to lift the blockades.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani also echoed the same line as adopted by Dr Nimaichand.
He asserted that it's time for the public to raise their voice and call for an end to the protracted blockades.
The protest demonstration was also participated by former Union Minister Th Chaoba and former Minister L Jatra.
