Food items at wholesale rates

Imphal, September 22 2011:
In view of the shortage of essential commodities due to the continuing blockade, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department is planning to procure dal, potato and onion from Guwahati for re-selling them to people at wholesale rate.
CAF &PD Minister N Biren informed that a high level meeting was held this evening with the Chief Minister in the chair and attended by Revenue Minister Th Debendra, Works Minister K Ranjit, Chief Secretary DS Poonia and Finance Commissioner Rakesh Ranjan.
The meeting decided to make the necessary arrangements so as to make the three commodities available to the public at wholesale rates.
Meanwhile, the Imphal Bazar Business Community has submitted the price list of essential commodities to the DC, Imphal West.
As per the list a 15 kg tin of mustard oil is Rs 1320 to 1350 per tin; Rs 1200 to Rs 1220 per 15 Kg tin for Pam oil, Rs 22 per Kg of potato, Rs 35 per Kg of onion, Rs 38 per Kg for Matar, Rs 41 per Kg for Kantak (Matar dal), Rs 52 per Kg for Masur dal, Rs 12 to Rs 12.50 per Kg for Punjab rice, Rs 20 per Kg for assorted rice (Haryana), Rs 24 per Kg for Parmal rice (Andhra), Rs 26 to Rs 27 per Kg for Sugar, Rs 55 per Kg for Chana, Rs 62 per Kg for Arhar, Rs 925 per 45 Kg bag for Atta, Rs 975 per 45 Kg bag for Maida and Rs 85 per Kg for Moong dal.
The Government has also issued an order giving clearance to use the margin money available with the department for procuring dal, potato and onion, Biren said.
He added that the three items would be made available to public at wholesale rates very soon.
