Senapati, June 21 2016:
A 14 member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Rural Development visited Senapati DHQs and interacted with the DC, SDOs, DLOs, DRDA officials and RD related Department officials at DRDA conference hall DHQ today, our correspondent reports.
After arriving from Charhazare (Kanglatongbi) where a brief interaction was held with the village leaders in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus, the MPs were received with Naga traditional coats, flowers and souvenirs.
The Parliamentary team accompanied by various bank officials were briefed for over 30 minutes by DC Jacintha with power point presentation on different rural development projects and its implementation in Senapati district.
The DC dwelt on issues related to difficulties of opening bank accounts under MGNREGS or RD schemes due to lack of proper banking facilities in remote areas and distance between the existing banks and villages.
While seeking special attention for Senapati district, Jacintha pointed out the shortfalls of internet connectivity in many parts of the district.
The DC also noted that under the Integrated Watershed Management Project (IWMP) considering the good growth of cardamom plant, more than 500 acres have been identified and plantation has begun.
The IWMP project has promoted the Cardamon plantation to discourage the traditional forms of opium cultivation in the remote and fertile areas.
