Imphal, March 14 2012:
Miffed with the failure of the BRO/BRTF in improving 18 km stretch of Pallel-Chandel Road after several requests and assurances, the Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) has announced that it would impose a 24-hour chakka bandh in Chandel district including NH-2 on March 24 .
Announcing this in a statement, NSUC said the students' body is constrained to launch a series of agitation until its demand for improvement of the Pallel-Chandel road is achieved.
The students' body also demanded clarification from the BRO/BRTF under what circumstances it failed to repair the road when the amount was already sanctioned by the Central Government.
Meanwhile, the NSUC has also demanded the immediate transfer of EE (Electricity) Chandel Power Sub-station for alleged failure of the department in fulfilling the needs of the people.
It also warned of launching serious agitation demanding the transfer of ZEO Chandel for alleged irregularity, nonimplementation of Centre-funded schemes, not paying attention to the call of quality education and poor quality of school buildings under SSA.
The NSUC also demanded transfer of EE (PHED and PWD) Chandel for alleged manipulations.
