National seminar on medicinal plants held

GP Women's college Department of Botany and All Manipur Medicinal Plants Development Association jointly organised a national seminar on 'Sustainable Cropping of Medicinal Plants for Biodiversity Conservation' at the College premises today.
Highlighting varied benefits of medicinal plants through the traditional method of treatment during his speech as the chief guest, Dean of School of Human and Environmental Science of Manipur University Prof W Nandakumar expressed grave concern on the gradual extinction of invaluable medicinal plants in Manipur due to lack of protective mechanism.
Calling upon all concerned to contribute their mite in the protection and development of medicinal plants, he strongly advocated ceaseless initiatives from the subject experts.
Principal of the co-host College Y chandrasakhi commenting on the issue expressed hope that by organising such an event periodically there will be an increase in the awareness level and renewed enthusiasm among the general public to save medicinal plants from extinction.
She also mooted that workshops organised in the near future will be participated by more subject ex perts and scholars.
College Research Committee Convenor of Central Agricultural University Prof JM Laishram and Kolkata University duo Prof ML Ghosh and Prof H Shah attended the workshop as the resource persons.
