Surgical outreach programme carried out at Tamenglong

The 13th surgical outreach mission was carried out successfully by a team of surgeons and gynaecologists from JNIMS in collaboration with Rotary Club Imphal and under the aegis of the District Management Committee Tamenglong.
A press release issued by the Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong district, stated that a total of 40 patients (of both major and minor cases) were operated at the new District Hospital, Tamenglong.
Professor N Jitendra, HOD (Surgery), JNIMS, has created a record by conducting maximum number of surgeries in Tamenglong, where in 40 patients (both major and minor cases) were operated on between November 10 and 11, it added.
It stated that due to the remoteness of the district, such kind of operation camp is required from time to time to benefit the poor people who cannot afford to go to expensive hospitals for treatment and added that to conduct such routine operations, the District Hospital, Tamenglong need to be provided with sufficient manpower and equipped with proper infrastructure.
Explaining that travelling to Imphal, which is around 150 kilometres from Tamenglong is a hazardous and arduous journey for the patients, it pointed out that the surgical and other health related camps being conducted in the district have benefited many people.
The DHMS Tamenglong is planning to organise such surgical outreach mission in the district at least once in every three months and the plans have been discussed with the DC/ Chairman/ DHMS, to provide funds for such programme, to be sanctioned by the State Government.
The Chief Medical Officer also appealed to the people of the district to give maximum support and cooperation to the Health Department for smooth functioning of the 50 bedded Tamenglong District Hospital.
