Bomb blast kills one, another hurt

Imphal, November 12 2012:
At least one pedestrian was killed while another wounded critically when a powerful bomb exploded at a trash site near Imphal College along Tiddim road (Imphal Airport Road) in Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai under Singjamei Police Station, Imphal West this evening.
The pedestrian who lost his life in the blast which took place at around 5.30 pm has been identified as M Munneilin alias Alin Kom (37), s/o Seipu Kom of, a resident of Khonomphai village of Churachandpur district and the injured as Achungpa Kom (45), s/o ST Atethang Kom of Sagang bazaar, Churachandpur district.
Achungpa is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol where his condition is stated to be critical.
According to family members, both Munneilin and Achungpa, were returning to their rented rooms at Jim Blessing Home, Sangairporu Mamang Leikai on foot from Paite Veng where they had been engaged in a building construction work when the bomb hit them.
Munneilin Kom died on the spot while the injured Achungpu Kom was immediately rushed to Langol Hospital by local people for necessary medical attention.
As soon as the news of the blast reached, personnel of Imphal West District Police rushed to the spot and searched for other bombs which might be planted nearby.
According to police reports, the bomb was planted at the trash site located along Tiddim road near Imphal College and was triggered via a remote control device.
Incidentally, there were no security personnel deployed near the spot nor any vehicle of the security personnel had passed the spot at the time of the blast or before.
A case has been registered with the Singjamei Police Station in connection with the incident and the police have begun investigation into it.
On the other hand, another powerful bomb was found planted near Lilong Tairenmakhong, 500 metres away from Lilong Police Station at around 8 am today.
The bomb was found planted in a box with an antenna attached to it near an electric post.
After the mysterious object was reported to the Lilong Police Station by a passerby, a team of police personnel came to the spot for examination and confirmed it to be a bomb.
Immediately, the Imphal-Moreh road was blocked and the vehicles were diverted to another route.
Personnel of 28-AR posted in Lilong Police Station also arrived at the spot to help in the security arrangement.
Later, bomb experts arrived with a bomb jammer vehicle.
The AR personnel also activated smoke bombs around the area so as to prevent the unidentified bomb planters from attempting to trigger the remote control while the bomb experts were trying to remove the bomb.
After removing the bomb safely, the bomb experts detonated it at a safer site at Lilong Chaobok hill.
