EEVFAM observes foundation day

Lamenting that the investigation carried out by CBI into the extrajudicial killing cases of the State and the Court's process is moving at a very slow pace, Extrajudicial Execution Victims Families' Association (EEVFAM) president Renu Takhellambam has sought public support to in exerting strong pressure to the authorities concerned to expedite the process for justice deliverance.
She was speaking at 10th foundation day celebration of EEVFAM at Gandhi Memorial Hall, here, today.
The president went on to say that the members of EEVFAM and human rights defenders are not happy at the sluggish process of the CBI investigation and Court process related to the extrajudicial cases of Manipur.
It is disheartening to learn that no further hearing is held after September 2018, she added.
Conveying that CBI lodged FIRs for 39 extrajudicial cases and filed chargesheet for 11 other cases, Renu maintained that trial for only 4 or five cases are undergoing at the Court of Sessions Judge, and CJM, Imphal following the direction from Supreme Court of India.
Pointing out that the families members of the victims need to unite together and fight collectively till justice for the extrajudicial killings is serve, she maintained that more evidences and witnesses are required to deliver justice.
Reminding that there were agitations for the failure of the Government to do the needful in connection with the cases, the president sought public support to stop extrajudicial killings and remove AFSPA from the State completely.
She then expressed gratitude to those who participated the foundation day.
Speaking at the function, Manipur Human Rights Commission, Acting Chairman, Khaidem Mani stressed on the importance of defending the human rights.
The function was also attended by HRA executive director Babloo Loitongbam and many others human rights defenders and eminent persons as the presidium members and invitees.
A panel discussion was also held later wherein Babloo Loitongbam, CSSEIP, MU Director Professor Amar Yumnam, AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam, Senior human rights defender, Aram Plamei, EEVFAM counsel advocate N Subhaschandra participated.
