ECI observers to visit state for verifying photos

Imphal, February 10, 2012:
Considering the seriousness of checking and verification of photographs taken during the time of casting their votes by the electorates with those in the Electoral Rolls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) would be sending its observers to the state by Sunday next.
According to an official source, the appointed observers of ECI would personally monitor the process of checking and verification of photographs taken of the voters during the electoral process with those in the Electoral Rolls, which is currently being carried out by the respective ROs and other officials in all the DC offices of the state.
Three observers including the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal and an IPS Officer would be visiting the state for the said purpose on February 12.The State Election Office has made all necessary arrangements of their arrival including transportation.
Security arrangements will also be made as soon as they arrive at Imphal.
The observers would be in the state till the process of checking and verification of photographs is completed.
They would also collect detailed reports and submit the same to the ECI.
While in the state, the observers would also be looking into complaints of re-poll made to the State Election Office, the source added.
It is said that some of the candidates have often visited the DC office complexes where checking and verification process of photographs is being carried out, thereby creating difficulty in the process.
