AMSU observes 26th Manipuri Language Day

The 26th Manipuri Language Day was also observed by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) at its headquarter located inside DM College campus today .
The observance function was graced by Professor Sanatombi, former Dean, School of Humanity, Manipur University as chief guest; AMSU president Manjit Sarangthem as president and former AMSU president Assistant Professor L Gojendro as guest of honour .
Addressing the gathering, Professor Sanatombi recalled the movement launched for inclusion of Manipuri language in the Eight Schedule of Indian Constitution .
She asserted that as a result of the movement, MCS and MPS aspirants now have the option to sit for the examination conducted by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) in Manipuri language .
She said that Manipuri language is yet to be included on the Indian currency which is unfortunate for the people of the State .
Emphasising on the role of language in human life, the professor called upon the people to conserve the rich art and culture of the State .
She added that every people of the State should contribute towards promoting Manipuri language across the world .
AMSU advisor Th Suresh who attended the function observed that it is high time to include the topic on the need for promoting Manipuri language in school curriculum .
He said that student organisations could take the responsibility to ascertain whether the topic is properly taught to students in the schools .
He also said that the State Government ought to exert pressure on the Central Government to feature Manipuri language on the Indian currency .
He appealed to the people to work together to promote Manipuri language across the world.
