Poppy plantations razed to the ground

Joint teams of State Police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Narcotic Control Bureau, along with Forest and Horticulture Department, have destroyed 1837 acres of illegal poppy plantations (worth around Rs 130 crore) in the State, according to SP of NAB, W Basu.
Briefing media persons at his office chamber today, in connection with the destruction of illegal poppy plantation at Hangoirok Pat, under Saikul PS, Kangpokpi district, he said that the joint team consisitng of NAB, NCB, personnel of 7th Manipur Rifles, Forest and Horticulture Department, destroyed around 83 acres of illegal poppy plantation at Hangoirok hill range today.
The total value of the destroyed poppy plants is around Rs 5 crore and 51 lakh, he added.
The SP explained that in the last few months, the joint team have destroyed a total of around 1837 acres of illegal poppy plantation, estimated to be worth around Rs 130 crore in total.
He also informed that the authorities are looking forward to take up necessary lawful actions against the owners of the illegal poppy plantations, as well as to carry out further mass destruction of such plantations in the future.
He mentioned that the destruction of such plantations has been successful due to the help of various district police of the State.
Superintendent of Narcotic Control Bureau, Vikas Kumar, was also present at the briefing.
