Thoubal, September 08 2017:
The Employees Association of Thambal Marik College under Oinam AC, staged a sit-in following the suspension of a teacher, a non teaching staff and handing suspension call to two other teachers of the College .
The aided College has more than 2000 students, 79 teaching staff and 47 non-teaching staff, reports our correspondent .
Several teachers have been teaching at the aided College for a long time although they are paid quite low salaries and the governing body of the College, recently, transferred four new teachers and one non-teaching staff to the College on April 25 .
Amidst the transfer of new staff at the College, a teacher along with one non-teaching staff, who have been serving at the college for many years, were suspended without proper reason and two other teachers were granted explanation call for no reason .
The secretary of the association, L Baleshwar stated that on January 12, locals of Oinam caused a stir at the College on the basis that new teachers have been transferred at the school.
Following the stir, the governing body of the College along with the employee association signed an agreement and clarified to the locals that there has been no transfer of teachers nor there will be at the College .
However, the sudden transfer of new teachers and non-teaching staff at the College on April 25 has caused disagreements among the employees and the governing body .
Despite the representation submitted by the association to the Governing body, two more teachers were served with explanation call without providing any valid reason, he added .
He further stated that teachers were called to the office separately and threatened not to take part in any sort of agitation and also issued a notice not to organise any meeting of the association .
In order to avoid any more fight, the association remained quiet and managed to keep the issue of transfer of new teachers aside .
The governing body suspended the teachers and the non teaching staff promptly and appointed new teachers at the College on September 6, which in turn angered the teachers and led to the agitation today .
He also asserted that the teachers have been serving at the College despite irregular and low payment .
Baleshwar urged the governing body to consider their grievances and revoke the suspension order of the teachers who have been teaching their whole lives at the College .
The association will launch a two day cease work strike starting today and warned to undertake a mass resignation agitation if the concerned authority and the State Government fail to hear their pleas.
