Residence of Customs officer raided

CBI Anti Corruption Bureau carried out a raid at the residence of Gainsing Panmei, Superintendent of Customs Division Imphal, and his office, after registering a case in connection with possessing of disproportionate assets.
The case was registered by CBI (ACB) Imphal yesterday against Gainsing Panmei, Superintendent Anti Smuggling unit, Customs Division Imphal West, of Eastern Keikhu village, Kshetrigaon, under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 on the basis of information received from reliable sources regarding possession of assets by Giansing Panmei which are disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The FIR mentioned that Gainsing Panmei acquired huge assets, both movable and immovable, totalling to around Rs 1,85,89,475, during the period between January 1, 2015, to December 31 last year, in his name and in the name of his family members.
It also alleged that Gainsing Panmei purchased one three-storeyed RCC building at Dewlaland and in the said building he had opened a cafe and a studio.
Following the registration of the FIR against Gainsing Panmei by Arun Rawat, Inspector, CBI (ACB) Imphal Branch, (IO of the case) a raid was conducted at his residence located at Eastern Keikhu village, Kshetrigaon, Dewlaland and Customs Office located at Sangakpham, simultaneously by a CBI team from early morning today.
According to a reliable source, the raid is still continuing till the time of filing this report.
During the raid, CBI seized some documents related to land and finance, the source added.
It may be mentioned that today's raid marks the second such raid carried out against officers of Customs Division Imphal as on December 21 last year, CBI raided the residence of Assistant Commissioner RK Darendrajit at Bamon Leikai Lalji Latpa Leikai and seized gold, cash and documents related to land and finance, after registering a case under Prevention of Corruption Act.
