Sangai Festival: Replica crafted by IACC draws praises

A replica of a Meitei woman pounding paddy in a wooden mortar and with a wooden mallet made entirely of plaster of paris attracted heaps of appreciations from visitors at the ongoing Sangai Festival.
Stall No 88, owned by Imoinu Arts and Crafts Centre awed the visitors at the festival with the unique structure.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, stall owner Thiyam Romen said Imoinu Arts and Crafts Centre has been taking part in the Sangai Festival for three years now.
This is the first time the centre has come up with the structure of a woman pounding paddy.
The stall also showcases other handmade products made by the centre.
A tag demanding Rs 10 for taking picture of the replica have been set at the stall to prevent any form of damage by the teeming visitors eager to capture the unique structure in frame.
Five persons have requested to purchase the structure till now, Romen stated.
The Centre has set a price of Rs 40,000 for the structure and it is made only on request.
Some other items showcased at the stall are also made of plaster of paris like the structure while others are made from paper, glass and wood.
In 2014, Imoinu Arts and Crafts Centre sold products worth over Rs 70000, Romen said.
This year, the Centre has sold products worth upto Rs 20,000.Thiyam Romen runs the Imoinu Arts and Crafts Centre showroom at Moirangkhom Makha Yumnam Leikai.
With products like the replica of Meitei Woman pounding paddy, the centre no doubt receives many orders from eager art lovers.
Romen asserted that his showroom gets more orders than his workers could supply.
