Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, today, remanded Ayekpam Chinglensana and his younger brother, Ayekpam Naocha, injudicial custody till March 9 in connection with the suspicious death of Ayekpam (o) Marina Devi (Chinglensana's wife) on February 14 at Takyel Kongbal Leirak Achouba.
Ayekpam Chinglensana (27) and Ayekpam Chingthamkhong alias Naocha (21) were produced before the Court following the completion of five additional days in custody of Lamphel PS, along with a prayer for remanding them into judicial custody.
On the other hand, Naocha's counsel filed a remand objection along with a bail application.
During the proceeding, the IO submitted that Chinglensana and Naocha were arrested based on a complaint lodged by the elder brother of the deceased before Lamphel PS.
As a part the investigation, police recovered a mobile phone used by the deceased and a diary, the IO informed adding that during interrogation, Chinglensana claimed that way back in 2015, an unknown male and a female took away his wife and she remained missing for the whole day.
He claimed that on the next day, he, along with the elder brother of the deceased (the complainant of the case) went to Moirang Lamkhai and brought Marina back home.
The IO continued that interrogation revealed that last year March/April, Chinglensana began an affair with a girl by hiding that fact that he is married and has a daughter.
Eventually, in June last year, his wife came to know about the affair which led to some quarrels, the IO added.
During interrogation, Chinglensana claimed that on February 13 this year, the day of the incident, after having dinner, they went to have pan at a nearby shop and watched a Manipuri film.
He further claimed that he went to sleep earlier than his wife and the next day, when he woke up, he found his wife hanging in their bedroom, the IO said.
On the other hand, during police interrogation, Naocha revealed that one day, he slipped into his sister-in-law's room and stole her gold earrings.
After the incident came to light, a rift developed between them, the IO explained, adding that on the date of incident, Naocha claimed that he went for work as a head mason and returned home at around 10.30 pm.
The next day, on February 14, he heard his brother shouting and rushed out to find their family members together in his elder brother's room.
Just then, he came to know that his sister-in-law had been found hung to death.
The IO explained that the two individuals had earlier denied to disclose any reasons why the deceased could have committed suicide but in police custody, they both revealed some clues, and as such, prayed for remanding them into judicial custody.
After hearing the submission of both sides, the Court ordered Naocha to be released on bail after furnishing a PR bond of Rs 1 lakh.
However, as he failed to pay the amount, the Court remanded him and his elder brother into judicial custody till March 9 .
