Imphal, February 24 2020:
Manipur State Kala Akademi secretary L Kishworjit inaugurated the '12th annual art exhibition including photography 2019', organised by Art Society Manipur at Imphal Art College today.
During the inaugural function, Art Society Manipur presented awards to different artists for their work.
The 12th Annual award was conferred to H Gabriel Meitei and B Bishambhor Sharma while A Jandhabi Devi Memorial Art Award was presented to M Jonathan Haominlal Haokip and G Krishnadas Sharma.
All the artists were also given a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.
Addressing the gathering, Art Society Manipur secretary M Semson said that the exhibition has been organised for all the talented and budding artists in the State and for them to explore their natural ability apart from promoting them and their work.
Manipur State Kala Akademi secretary L Kishworjit said that artists express their feelings, their view, inspirations and the changes that time brings, through their work, be it in paintings, scriptures or any other creative art form.
He expressed that the leaders/authorities concerned seems to give less attention to artists despite their hardwork, dedication and contributions.
Kishworjit opined that artists should show and tell the people about their dedication and effort for the society.
He stated that the funds allocated for Art and Culture and State Kala Akademi in the current Assembly session is quite low.
As such, it has been difficult to organise such exhibitions or programmes and even present awards to honour the artists.
Even though Imphal Art College has produced many talented artists, the State Government has failed to do the needful to improve the college.
Imphal Art College Chairman Ibochouba Yendrembam and Art Society Manipur president Y Nabachandra also attended the function.
