Peter Seiminthang helps KSC lift District Council Day trophy

Two brilliant strike of Peter Seiminthang helped the Kuki Sporting Club (KSC) add another feather on its cap by lifting the Champion trophy of the 16th Edition of District Council Day Trophy Open Football Tournament today at Brig M Thomas ground, Kangpokpi DHQs.
The more than two week long tournament organized by District Sports Association Sadar Hills (Kangpokpi) and sponsored by Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi to commemorate the establishment of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council in 1971 came to an end with a captivating final match between Kholjang Youth Club and Kuki Sporting Club.
The auspicious closing ceremony was attended by ADC Tamenglong Chairman, Ngamsinrei Panmei as chief guest while ADC Sadar Hills Chairman Haokholal Hangshing and Rev Y Haokip, Vice Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee attended as guest of honour and functional president respectively.
ADC Sadar Hills Councillors including Executive Members and Members, CEO Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council and all staff and employees, DSA Sadar Hills president and executives, members of KTC, KWWO, KYU, church leaders, chiefs and various other civil bodies' leaders also attended the closing ceremony.
ADC Tamenglong while conveying his sincere appreciation to ADC Sadar Hills in introducing and maintaining the District Council Day trophy.
ADC Sadar Hills Chairman Haokholal Hangshing pointed out it will be almost 50th edition by now had the District Council not been defunct for 20 years and added that all efforts will be put in to maintain it continuously as it is the only tournament which highlighted the significance of District Council in Manipur.
He also said that the tournament is not only about games and sports but also a platform of peace and harmony, understanding, unity and fraternity among the people especially the youth while appealing all to participate in bigger number and better spirit from the next edition.
The action-packed final match between Kholjang Youth Club and KSC kicked off after inspection of players by the dignitaries and photo session with thousands of fans all around the playground and gallery cheering their respective teams after a thrilling exhibition match between DC Kangpokpi and CEO-SHADC Kangpokpi where the later won the match by 2-0.It was the 12th minute strike from an experienced KSC striker Peter Seiminthang that breaks the deadlock in the first half before he added another goal in the 54th minute.
However, Kholjang Youth Club pulled back a goal in the late 83rd minute when Thangkhanlen converted a penalty kick after KSC defender was adjudged to have handled the ball.
Kholjang Youth Clubs effort to find the equalizer however failed to materialise till the end of the match as KSC defence stood strong to deny any chance in the scoreline.
Kuki Sporting Cub were awarded the Champion trophy with cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and runners up Kholjang Youth Club were awarded with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 70,000 while semi-finalists Muvanlai Athletics and JMT Somphung were awarded Rs 20,000 each.
KSC players, Ginminthang Hangshing, Robinson and Sehgouhao Khongsai bagged the top scorer, man of the final match and promising player awards respectively while Kholjang Youth Club custodian Thanggoumang Kipgen bagged the best goalkeeper award.
Exhibition match winners CEO-SHADC Kangpokpi were awarded Rs 5,000.ADC Tamenglong Chairman, Ngamsinrei Panmei declared the tournament closed after de-hoisting the tournament flag in the presence of ADC Sadar Hills Chairman and other dignitaries.
