Imphal, December 19 2016:
Seven different civil society organisations have urged the State Government to let the people handle the present issue if the Government cannot do anything to stop the UNC.
International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), People's Action for National Development Movement (Pandm), Kanglei Apunba Meira Lup (Kanglamei), Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Chanura Lamchinglen Kangleipak (CKL) and All Manipur Club Organisation Association and Meira Lup (ACOAM Lup) called a joint press meet at IPSA office at Keishampat today.

At the press meet, Pandm member Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said the State and the Central Government are equally aware of the miseries endured by the people of the State owing to the UNC's economic blockade but no plausible step has been taken up to address the matter.
The Supreme Court and Manipur High Court have said that the indefinite blockade imposed along the National Highways by the UNC is illegal.
But no immediate action has been taken up against the UNC, he stated.
The State Government should press the Central Government to intervene into the matter, Dilipkumar opined.
He has further questioned why the security forces in the State are not allowed to exercise full power and urged the State Government to restore unity and peace in the State.
The CSOs that were present today have also banned entry of Union Ministers into the State.
They alleged that the Union Ministers who visit the State on regular basis have seemed to be inciting social unrest rather than initiating any measures to resolve the issue.
Kanglamei executive member Y Leirik Leima has urged the State Govt to call an emergency Assembly session to resolve the present issue.
