Imphal, December 19 2016:
The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has appealed to all communities of Manipur to maintain solidarity in the present situation of communal rift and harmoniously reconcile their differences through dialogue.
In a statement NEFIS said that a candle-light march will be held tomorrow in Delhi in which individuals and organizations from different North-East communities will be participating.
NEFIS believes that there should be a mechanism of dialogue and consultations between different communities, said the statement and added that the move to create new districts should have been taken with the consent of all communities and added that the State Government should have consulted different groups before deciding on the issue.
Such an arbitrary move would only escalate the crisis and foster trust-deficit between different communities, it said.
It should be known that NEFIS had earlier organized a seminar on the issue in which resolutions calling for lifting of economic blockade and counter-blockade to ease the hardship borne by the poor and labouring masses of all communities and condemning incidences of violence that might have occurred in the present situation of communal rift were passed.
NEFIS also condemns the role of the State Government for creating such a situation where different communities find themselves at loggerheads with each other.
