MU hosts one-day conference on spread of Hindi language

Hindi Department of Manipur University today organised a one-day conference on the spread of Hindi language and its prospects and challenges in the Court Hall of Vice-Chancellor Secretariat, Manipur University .
According to a statement issued by Dr Ganesh Sethi, PRO, MU, the inaugural function was attended by Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Prof M Mani Meitei, Dean, School of Humanities, Dr Kanchan Sharma, Head, Department of Hindi, Prof Atul Kothari, Coordinator Shiksha Bachao Aandolan Samiti as the chief guest, guest of honour, president and keynote speaker respectively .
In his chief guest speech, Prof Pandey stated that the popularity of Hindi language is not increasing at national level but also in the international level.
Renowned universities like Oxford, Texas, and Honoloolu, directly or indirectly offer Hindi language courses.
About 176 Indian universities offer Hindi Language courses.
In South Asian countries, China and Japan are well versed with Hindi language because of its simplicity, he said .
Prof Pandey urged the gatherings to translate old Manipuri works in Hindi literature in order to spread Hindi language.
Moreover, he stressed the need to take forward this language with determination as Hindi is ‘friendship’ and ‘relationship’ language .
In his keynote address, Prof Kothari said that to do business in India one should know Hindi language .
Hindi can be treated as business language, he further stated.
While analysing the prospects and challenges of Hindi language, he explained that professional courses should be in Hindi language .
When country's language spreads, the country will grow and develop automatically.
Knowledge creation is only possible through mother language, degree can be obtained in other languages but not the knowledge, he opined .
In his speech Prof Mani stated that living in India without knowing Hindi is very difficult.
The study of Hindi should be promoted and propagated very strongly.
During his speech, he requested the Vice-Chancellor to introduce Hindi language in colleges and should talk with Chief Minister, Education Minister and concerned authorities in this regard .
In her presidential speech Dr Sharma appreciated and thanked to Vice-Chancellor for his cooperation and support to make this programme a grand success .
The programme began with lighting candles and welcome speech by Dr Bijoy Laxmi and concluded with vote of thanks from Yashwant Singh.
