Protest in Naga inhabited areas

Imphal, January 17, 2012:
All shops and establishment were shut down in Naga inhabited area of Nagaland in protest against the act of the Assam Rifles in prohibiting Isaak Chisi Swu, Chairman of NSCN (IM) and its General Secretary Th Muivah from entering Zunhebeto, Nagaland, homeland of Swu, today.
The protest agitation started early today from around 6am and went on till 6pm.The agitation was also carried out in the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur which include Senapati, Tamenglong, and Chandel.
The two leaders of NSCN (IM) who were on their way to Zunhebeto from their camp Hebron accompanied by a large entourage consisting of about 70 vehicles was stopped by an Assam Rifles team led by a Brigadier at Bade village around 9:30 am on Saturday last.
Bade village is located about 20 kms from the Hebron camp.
The AR asked Th Muivah and Isaak Chisi Swu not to go ahead without obtaining permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Later, after a long wait for hours, at around 3 pm the Ministry of Home Affairs reportedly allowed the NSCN (IM) leaders to visit Zunhebeto under certain conditions.
The conditions put forward by the Ministry of Home Affairs include, travelling of the NSCN (IM) leaders without weapons, the personal security guards shall not carry weapons even in concealed manner, the number of vehicles following the two leaders should not exceed 20 and that the leaders should not hold any public meetings or press conference.
