The JAC against the force eviction of Naga river lane strongly condemned the use of heavily arm police personnel toward the non-violent peaceful Conference cum sit-inprotest by the present State Govt today.
A statement issued by the JAC said that a peaceful public conference cum sit-in-protest near the main gate of Tangkhul Baptist Church, Imphal with the sole motives of taking the opinion of all concerned towards the future course of action of the JAC.
The gathering was peaceful until the security personnel came and create chaos, forcibly chasing out everyone, said the JAC.
The security personnel said that CrPc144 was clamped within all the jurisdiction of Imphal west district and when the JAC leaders asked them to show them the Order letter, the OC of Imphal West sarcastically told them the Govt can do anything they want at any points of time and they should personally go to the Deputy Commissioner and collect the order letter themselves, the JAC said.
If the State Govt can go against the High Court order and if the Government officials can take the law into their hands, they have no right to impose the law upon the common people, it said while adding there is no rule of law under the present State Govt.The police personnel charged them with baton including some senior citizens leaving the innocent tribals with subjugated feeling.
The angry mob was controlled by the JAC leaders and they all proceeded towards MBC Campus and continued the Conference .
The Conference was Moderated by Dr Gina Shangkham, former Convener of Indigenous woman Forum, North East India.
Speakers of the conference included Grace Shatsang, Convener of the JAC, BD Behring Ex-MP, Dr R Sanga, Director Imphal School of Preaching, Rev W Konghon, Ahau, President, All Manipur Tribals Lawyer Association, Advocate R Daniel, Somi Keishing Advisor All Tribal Chief Association.
The Conference re-endorsed the earlier declaration of the public on May 27, that is, to observe May 20 every year as the State Govt's Law breaking Day, the statement said.
