Imphal, April 13 2013 :
The armed United Revolutionary Front (URF), Manipur has announced general strike in all the hill areas of Manipur from 6 am of April 15 till the President of india Dr Pranab Mukherjee leaves the State.
A URF statement issued by its Information and Publicity secretary AK Pibarel stated that had the President's visit intended to solve the decades old people's revolutionary movement there might have been no boycott call, but the fact that Dr Pranab Mukherjee's arrival is to continue India's grip on Manipur cannot be tolerate now as well as in the future.
It is heartening to note that rather than contributing his mite in resolving over six decades of people's movement for freedom, the President chose to join in the celebration of an institution's (Adimjati Shiksha Ashram) 50th foundation anniversary, said Pibarel while cautioning all concerned against inviting Indian leaders in strife-torn Manipur.
Terming the President visit as insignificant compared to the suffering of the people, the URF called upon the people to ensure that the boycott call is honoured.
