Imphal, June 10 2012:
Manipur People's Party has expressed amazement over the remarks of Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Jairam Ramesh in terming implementation of MGNREGS in the state as the best in the country.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary (Publicity) H Hemanta, MPP countered that the implementation of MGNREGS in the state is in its worst condition with people complaining over unpaid wages, not given any work under the scheme and machines being used for works that should be done manually.
In the given situation, if Manipur is said to be ahead of other states in India in terms of implementation of MGNREGS in the state, then one could easily understand what it would be like in other parts of the country, the statement contended, adding that Union Minister should have think over before coming up with such ridiculous remarks.
The statement further asserted that what the scheme has taught the local bodies of the state is the lesson of cheating.
There are numerous cases pending in the court over the failure of implementing the scheme properly.
So, the remark of Union Minister is not at all acceptable to MPP.
The MPP also expressed regret over the attitude of the state government in misleading the Union Minister by taking him to visit places already work out only.
If MGNREGS and PMGSY have been properly implemented, then there would have been hardly any need for further development in the state, MPP added.
