Imphal, June 10 2012:
The Manipur People's Party (MPP) has questioned how Manipur could score best in the country in the implementation of MGNREGA.
Playing down the claim made yesterday by Union Minister Jairam Ramesh in this regard, the regional political party in a press statement said that the State Government is currently facing hordes of complaints on non-payment of wages, refusal of providing works and execution of works by machines regarding MGNREGA.
The statement issued by MPP General Secretary (Publicity) W Hemanta reminded the popular saying, 'job cards have changed to job cars', which meant that the implementing agencies of MGNREGS are hugely misappropriating the funds of the Central Government sponsored scheme.
MPP questioned how Manipur could be rated as the best State amongst the States of the country regarding implementation of MGNREGS at a time when Courts in Manipur are flooded with various cases of irregularities.
The MPP asserted that no improvement is visible in terms of health, road connectivity, power supply, drinking water, education, sports, telegram, post office and transport facilities in rural areas of the State.
Maintaining that roads constructed under PMGSY are the worst roads in the State, the political party said that these roads do not last even a year.
Drawing his attention to the matter, MPP suggested the Union Minister to make statements after a thorough survey in future.
MPP also alleged that the State Government had deceived the visiting Union Minister by showcasing some made-up structures and roads especially face-lifted for his visit.
Maintaining that Jairam Ramesh's visit to the State did not serve any purpose as he did not make any random survey to understand the ground reality, MPP suggested the Minister to send a team of competent officials to conduct another round of survey of the Centre sponsored projects being implemented in the State.
