Imphal, February 10, 2012:
In spite of its earlier claims that it would come out as the single largest party in the recently held State Assembly Election; it seems that Congress party has lost its confidence and finally decided to ally with other political parties to form the next government.
The Indian National Congress had fielded candidates in all the 60 Assembly constituencies of the state in the recent State Assembly election.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as well as President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Gaikhangam had earlier claimed that not less than 30 to 35 of its candidates will come out successful and there will be a government formed by the Congress only.
It has been reported that since the results of the election to the 10th Manipur State Assembly conducted on January 28 last would be declared on March 6, all the political parties of the state have ample time to calculate precisely as to how many of their candidates will win and how many of them will loss.
As such, when the Congress party worked out the number of its candidates who will be successful, the figure has gone down considerably.
The report further stated that some of the prominent Congress candidates may even eat the dust this time.
Consequently, the Congress party has now started discussing to ally with other political parties for the formation of the next government.
The political parties which are likely to ally with the Congress include Trinamool Congress, CPI and MSCP.
Although there have not been any official talks with these political parties on the matter, informal telephonic talks are already underway.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that a young and dynamic Congress candidate, who has been successful in many of the Assembly elections held in the past is set to be the next Chief Minister of the state.
On the other hand, Opposition alliance, People's Democratic Front (PDF), too has been making efforts to stake claim for the formation of a non-Congress government in the state once the election results are out.
BJP is also consulting its High Command on the prospects of the party apart from its readiness to extend co-operation and help other political parties of the state in forming a non-Congress government.
However, Trinamool Congress, MSCP and CPI have not made its stand clear as to with whom they will ally.
