Imphal, September 05 2012:
Strongly suspecting involvement of NSCN (IM) in the Irungbam Irabanta case, the State police has reportedly proposed to the Government of Manipur that the case be handed over to the CBI.
According to an informed source, investigation carried out by State police into the disappearance of Irabanta has led to vital clues about involvement of the Naga armed group in the abduction of the contractor/supplier.
As NSCN (IM) is currently observing ceasefire and engaged in dialogues with the Central Government, the State police suggested that CBI would be the best option to continue further investigation.
Arrest of one Winner in connection with the case and the individual's subsequent disclosures is said to have convinced police authorities that the CBI would be the best agency to handle the case.
Whereabouts of Irabanta remain unknown till date since he reportedly left his rented quarter in Porompat area on May 29 morning.
Irabanta actually hails from Nongdam village under Lamlai police station.
