ICOP all set to observe 289th Puya Mei Thaba Day

To commemorate the 289th Puya Mei Thaba day to be held on January 9 at Kangla and Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) launched a poster campaign today.
Speaking to media persons at the Citizens Club at Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou, ICOP convenor Moirangthem Naokhamba said that the anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba day has been observed since the last 40 years.
He elaborated that the main observance function will be held at Kangla to be followed by a public meeting at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen.
All necessary preparation has been made to make the observation a grand success, he said.
He declared that on the occasion Ching-Tam Nungsi Lipun Award will be presented to folk singer Rewben Mashangva while Mangsatabam Ibechaobi will be honoured with Maichou Ningsing Award.
The two awards carry a cash prize of Rs 10000, shawl and a citation, he informed.
Naokhamba said that a blood donation camp will be held at Special Regular English School, Nambol Sabal Leikai and several other schools as part of the observation.
Noting that mass observance of Puya Mei Thaba day contributes in reviving Meetei Mayek script, he said that now one can pursue higher studies up to BA in Meetei Mayek language.
There are around 2000 people in the State, who have cleared TET in Meetei Mayek language, he added.
