5 Myanmar Nationals sent to prison

Special Judge, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (ND&PS) Manipur, Th Saimon sentenced five Myanmar Nationals to prison and imposed fines in connection with different cases taken up by Customs and Prevention Force, Moreh and Anti-Smuggling Unit, Custom Division Imphal.
The sentence hearing was held today at Special Court ND&PS against the five Myanmar Nationals identified as Ta Mong (32) s/o U Tan Shwe of Tamu Ward number 6 (Myanmar), Diha Joo (34) s/o (L) U Saw of Kanjura, Tamu (Myanmar), Nanchami (34) s/o Teng We of Savaswa-6 (Myanmar), Wingning (35) s/o (L) Chheta Wing of Tamu (Myanmar) and Wye Aung (31) s/o (L) Lin Aung of Auching, Tamu (Myanmar), who were convicted by the Court on December 22 last year.
In the first case of the Anti Smuggling Unit, Customs Division versus Ta Mong, the convict prayed for leniency stating that he is only 34 years old and is married and have two children.
Ta Mong also stated that he just kept the contraband drugs as per the request by one Amim whom he knew by name and face only who paid him Rs 500/600 .
He further submitted that prior to the case, he used to work in fitting and wiring of electric poles at Tamu Myanmar and that he had no previous involvement in any criminal cases in his native country or any other place.
After hearing both the counsel and the accused, the Court sentenced Ta Mong to rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and six months, along with a fine of Rs 50,000 .
The Court also ordered that in case of failure to pay the said fine, the convict has to undergo another 6 months simple imprisonment.
In the second case of Customs Preventive Force Moreh versus Diha Joo, the Court sentenced the convict to rigorous imprisonment for a period of five years along with a fine of Rs 50,000 and an additional six months of simple imprisonment in case of failure to pay the fine.
In the third case Head Quarter Preventive Unit Customs (NER) Shillong versus Nanchami, the Court sentenced the convict to four years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 and an additional six months simple imprisonment in case of default of payment of the said fine.
Regarding the fourth case of Customs Preventive Force Moreh versus Wingning, the Court sentenced the convict to five years simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 and an additional six months simple imprisonment in case of failure to pay the fine.
In the final case regarding Customs Preventive Force, Moreh versus Wye Aung, the Court also sentenced him to three months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 only .
