'Works taken up earlier by BOSEM to be scrutinised'

Newly appointed Secretary of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) Akham Joykumar has stated that he will retrospect the works and programmes taken up by the Board in the past to see that if there were any loopholes or shortcomings.
Addressing newspersons during a simple function held for handing over of charge at his office today, Joykumar said that he would put in best efforts to conduct the upcoming Class X examination smoothly and peacefully.
He informed that the BOSEM is planning to commence the examination in the last week of February.
When asked why the Class X examination collides with Holi which is one of the biggest festivals of the State, Joykumar replied that there are certain inconveniences caused due to the conduct of Class XII examination by Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) around the festival.
However, the festival will not affect Class X examination as BOSEM gives rest days during the five-day Holi festival while conducting the examination, he said.
He also assured that sincere efforts will be made to look after the affairs of BOSEM to ensure that every modus operandi of the Board is executed accordingly, including production of textbooks and affiliation of schools to the Board.
Outgoing Secretary of the Board, Laishram Phulchand Meitei who is currently the Controller of Examinations, BOSEM formally handed over the charge to Joykumar during the function.
Mention may be made that Government of Manipur appointed Akham Joykumar Singh, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Electronics, DM College of Science as the new Secretary of BOSEM on deputation, initially for a period of two years which may be extended for another one year from the date of his joining or till he attains the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier.
An order in this regard was issued by the Joint Secretary, Education (S) Department in the name of the Governor on December 19 of last year in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 12 (1) of the Manipur Secondary Education Act, 1972 .
